AFC Caregivers

The Arc of Greater Haverhill-Newburyport’s Adult Family Care (AFC) program is actively seeking caregivers to provide care, support, oversight, companionship, and mentoring to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the Merrimack Valley area.  Caregivers receive a tax-free stipend and payment for room & board.  They also receive training, monthly home visits, and 24 hour emergency support from AFC staff.

The Adult Family Care (AFC) program is a MassHealth funded program.  The goal of the program is to keep people with disabilities, along with frail elders, who cannot live safely on their own, in a home setting verses an institutionalized setting, such as a group home or nursing home.

In order to qualify to be an AFC Caregiver, one must:

  • Be 18 years or older;
  • Not be the member’s spouse or guardian.  Parents and family members can be caregivers as long as they are not the guardian of the member being served in the program.
  • Live in the same home as the member being served;
  • Have a home in Massachusetts, whether the home is owned or rented.

If you are interested in becoming a caregiver or know someone who might qualify for AFC services please contact Heather Hess, Director of AFC, at Heather.Hess@TheArcofGHN.org or (978) 373-0552, ext. 222.  If you know someone who might be interested please feel free to forward this ad!
